What the construction site bridge looks like
Williamsburg, California — The first phase of construction for the Kemper Bridge will begin in the fall, and the construction process has been shrouded in secrecy.
That’s because the Kemperek is one of two major projects that will be built by the state.
The Kemper is a proposed new bridge to span the Los Angeles River that will connect the cities of Los Angeles and Riverside, Calif.
The project has a budget of $1.4 billion and is expected to be completed in 2023.
Construction will begin this summer, and will be finished in 2026.
The first phase was funded by $1 billion in bonds issued in 2008.
The second phase is slated to be funded in 2021 and completed in 2024.
The project is expected cost $4.4 trillion.
The State Water Resources Control Board approved a contract with AEG for the project in May.
The contract is worth $4 billion, with an estimated cost of $3.6 billion.
That will cover construction of the first stage, the Kemple Bridge, and related infrastructure, including roads and bridges.
The state Department of Transportation is responsible for constructing the Kemplers.
