The $2 billion Chesapeake Bridge construction is on schedule to open in 2019
The opening of the $2.4 billion Chesham River Bridge in 2019 will be one of the busiest in U.S. history.
It will be the second major bridge built in the United States after the $1.7 billion Grand Central Terminal opened in New York City in 2016.
The bridge is scheduled to open at midnight local time on May 16, 2019.
The opening is expected to be accompanied by more than $500 million in spending by the state and local governments, including $2 million for construction of the new bridge’s bridge deck, $1 million for a new tunnel system, $700,000 for maintenance and $300,000 to help pay for new surveillance cameras along the new section of the bridge.
In addition, the state is also funding $350,000 in public-private partnerships to pay for surveillance equipment along the bridge, the Washington Post reported on Friday.
The bridge is expected be open to traffic by July 2019, when the $5.5 billion Grand Hyatt Hotel-Atlantic City and Atlantic City Casino are expected to open.
