Which is the safest way to travel between Sydney and Perth?
Posted October 19, 2018 07:15:17 A new bridge over the River Macquarie is being built across the Macquay River between Sydney’s Darling Harbour and Perth’s Fremantle CBD.
The project is part of a larger $6.5 billion project across the city.
The bridge will be built by the state-owned NSW Infrastructure Commission (NSIC).
The bridge is being constructed in partnership with Australian Government, the Australian Government’s Infrastructure Fund, and the Australian Rail and Maritime Union (ARMA).
It will link the Maccabee Bridge and the nearby Northern Rivers Bridge, and is expected to open in 2019.
The new bridge will provide a new way of accessing the northern part of the city, as well as provide safer and quicker access to the CBD.
But some commuters may find it a bit of a surprise.
Below are some of the safety issues that will arise from the new bridge.
How can I avoid the risk of crossing the River?
There are no official road closures at the new interchange.
There are also no closures at other existing crossings, including the Macnab Bridge and Macquai Bridge.
However, motorists may need to check with their local council to determine if there is a local road closure.
If you need to cross the River to reach the CBD, the Maclens Bridge, the Port Stephens Bridge, or the River Road Bridge are the only places where motorists are expected to be able to cross without the need to take the road.
You can also use the Harbour Bridge, which is expected, but not yet built, to cross to Port Stephens, or Port Stephens to Macquail, if you want to get there from the CBD by boat.
You’ll need to make an appointment with your local council and be prepared to provide a road map.
How is the bridge secured?
The bridge spans more than 100 metres (about 1,800 metres) across the river.
It will be secured with steel plates, metal rods, and concrete blocks, which are used to create a strong seal between the bridge and the river bottom.
The plates and the concrete blocks will also protect the bridge from being washed away during heavy rains.
What about boats?
The new bridges will only allow boats to travel on the Macmillan Bridge.
The existing bridge will not allow boats or motorbikes, even if you have a boat licence.
You won’t be able drive a boat across the River.
What if I’m travelling with my dog?
Dogs on the River will not be able get on board the Macruses.
Dogs will need to travel with you on the bridge, so make sure they have their leash.
Where is the road?
The River Road is not a designated road, and no official closures will be enforced at the interchange.
You may need a driver’s licence or a motorist’s licence to access the bridge.
What happens when the bridge is open?
At 9:00am on Friday the 19th, the bridge will open to traffic and allow motorists to cross safely.
Drivers will be able cross the bridge in groups of two and drivers will be allowed to overtake other vehicles.
Cars travelling on the river will not have to stop to wait for traffic to clear.
What can I do if I get stuck?
If you get stuck, check the map above to see if you can cross safely on the new road.
For further information, contact the bridge’s operator, the Northern Rivers Authority (NRRA).
Do I need to change my car’s odometer before I go on the Bridge?
No, it is not required.
You will be required to use a valid car odometer when travelling on Sydney’s River Road.
However if you do need to use an odometer, the vehicle’s speed and direction will be recorded on the odometer.
How much does the bridge cost?
The $6,500 cost of the project is being paid for by the NSW Government’s National Infrastructure Fund.
The Bridge and Roads NSW (BRNS) manages the project.
How do I find out more?
Visit the Macquest Bridge website and check the latest road closure updates.
You might also want to read the latest traffic updates from the Northern Waterways Authority (NWA), which manages the Macbeth River Road (Macquai to Maclennan), and the River Roads Authority (Macquitos to Macnabb).
How long will it take to complete the project?
The project will take about six years to complete.
There will be a total of nine bridges across Sydney to be built over the river between 2019 and 2024.
How will I know if I am ready to travel to or from the Macdonald Bridge?
The Bridge will open at 9:30am on the morning of Friday the 20th.
However there is no official closure.
How long is the Bridge expected to take?
The final bridge opening date will depend on when the Macqarree Bridge is completed.
For the bridge to open and operate normally, the road network needs to be stable
